Vargas v Salido

Let’s FIGHT! Francisco Vargas will make his first defence of his WBC Title on Saturday, and he steps into the ring to face challenger and former two-division world champion Orlando Salido. Title Belt Holder Vargas won his belt with a ninth-round knockout over WBC Champion Takashi Miura back in November of last year, in what was a harsh and gruelling fight. The fight didn’t go all Varga’s way as he was sent crashing to the canvas in the fourth round and looked like it may well have all been over. But credit to Vargas, he climbed to his feet and continued to fight, and it was Miura who ran out of steam having given his all in the previous rounds. This opened up opportunities for Vargas and in the ninth round Vargas connected, and it was goodnight Miura. Now Vargas will face Orlando Salido in his first defence. The ageing fighter has had his fair share of controversy in his career, no more so that his last fight against Roman Martinez back in September last year where Salido and his corner men all thought he had done enough to win the fight, yet two judges disagreed and awarded the fight to Martinez. Salido will be hoping he can draw on his vast experience and show Vargas that despite his years he still has what it takes when it comes to delivering world class performances. The fight will take place at the Stubb Center in Califonia and is sure to attract a good crowd, and it is also available on HBO. The fight should be a great fight, will Vargas be able to dominate his opponent in his going forward style of boxing or will the skills and experience of Salido give Vargas more than he can chew. Vargas has never fought anyone at this level before so it will make for an exciting fight!
