The chaotic UFC 229 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Connor McGregor
The biggest spectacle of the UFC will be etched in the history books, but for all the wrong reasons. After the much anticipated albeit a really good fight between two of the biggest superstars of the UFC, things got really ugly. The match itself has taken the backseat as compared to the massive brawl that erupted afterwards.
The long drawn out meeting between the Russian Eagle and the Notorious Irish man finally took place at UFC 229 at the T-Mobile arena in Vegas. The match itself was aggressive from the start and showcased both the fighter’s contrasting styles. Khabib’s feared grappling skills was on point during the fight which lasted for four rounds.
The first round saw Khabib trying to go for the legs early on for a takedown. He was successful as McGregor went down and Nurmagomedov started his pounding on the challenger. To the Irish man’s credit he survived the brutal attacks and the round ended with the champion on the top with a score of 10-8. The second round started again with the champion trading strikes with McGregor. Khabib still dropped McGregor on the canvas and tried to end the match but the challenger held his guard. The first two rounds were all Nurmagomedov while the Notorious One defended with all his might.
It was in round 3 that McGregor finally showed some dominance. His feared left uppercuts found its mark multiple times and even foiled Khabib’s takedown attempts. Nurmagomedov retaliated back with his own combinations and round 3 featured excellent striking between the two.
Round four started with a tiring McGregor trying to force his way out of Nurmagomedov’s hold. The champion firmly held Connor and went for the rear naked choke. McGregor tapped out and Khabib retained his championship.
It was what happened after the match that people ended up talking about. Khabib leapt from the cage and dived in to attack McGregor’s team member Dillion Danis. What happened next shocked the entire sporting community, as a fully fledged brawl broke out between both the camps. Members from the Russian’s team stormed the octagon and traded punches with Connor who was a spectator to the entire fight.
The whole drama overshadowed one of the biggest fights of the UFC and Dana White has a lot to answer. Although, according to him, three members of Nurmagomedov’s have been arrested after the utter chaos.
