Antonio Margarito will continue his comeback since ending his four-year retirement with a fight against Ramon Alvarez. The fight is scheduled to take place on August 13th at the Rosarito Convention Center, Mexico. Margarito is no stranger to the ring, having held a world title for five years, however, he decided to hang up his gloves after his fight with Jorge Paez. The fight went the distance, and Margarito was awarded a unanimous points decision. With an impressive record thirty-nine wins, twenty-seven wins by way of knockout, Margarito has left it late to make a comeback and will have a tough journey ahead. Margarito was the centre of controversy when he was handed a sixteen-month suspension following an incident where he had elements of plaster of Paris in his wraps as he attempted to fight Shane Mosley.
Alvarez is confident of this fight and has no other considerations other than finishing Margarito as quickly as possible. Alvarez is on a ten fight unbeaten streak and feels confident in his next opponent. When interviewed by the media Alvarez had this to say “I have always wanted the fight with Margarito, and now, thanks to Fernando Beltran, it will happen,” Alvarez said. “It is an opportunity for my career, and I have no doubt that I will win. I will go out there and give everything as I always do. Margarito is a warrior in the ring. He’s very strong and has power, but I have faith in my talent and my preparation. Defeating Margarito will lead me to the junior middleweight world title and help me in achieving my dream.”
